This is a stamped steel belt buckle with tab worn by enlisted German Kriegsmarine during World War II. This one has been well used, but is still in good condition. There is not much of the original dark blue paint remaining on the buckle, just some traces here and there. The biggest area of remaining paint is to the right side of the buckle. The remaining exposed steel has taken on a muted steel gray patina. The reverse of the buckle shows no original finish either. There is no makers mark. The roller bar and prongs are made of steel, the catch for the belt hook is still in place and shows no repairs. The brown leather tab is in good condition. It shows plenty of wear from use, but is still supple. The stitching is strong and unbroken. There is an oval makers mark near the tip of the tab, with G.H. OSANG/ DRESDEN in an arc and the date of 1940 in the center. While associated with the Kriegsmarine, these same buckles were issued to German Army troops late in the war. This is a very nice example of a desirable buckle, and will look great in any collection.
