This is an original regulation pattern US waist belt from the Civil War period. The belt length is 49 1/5" and is 1 1/2" wide. The leather shows honest wear but is still very supple. There are no cracks, rips, or tears, but there are two spots with some rodent damage. One area is near the stitching to secure the buckle, the other is the free end of the belt where the tip of the belt has been chewed away. There are no visible makers stamp or inspector's stamps. Every Union soldier wore one of these rigs, usually supporting a cap box and bayonet scabbard. If you have a loose buckle laying around this could be used to complete a belt for display of your Union accoutrements.
