This is a set of ribbons, one for the Grand Army of the Republic and the other for the Women's Relief Corps. The GAR was a veterans organization that was formed by Benjamin Stephenson on 6 April, 1866. It was composed of Union veterans of the American Civil War. In the beginning the GAR was available as a way for the veterans to meet and stay in contact with each other after the war ended. They soon grew into one of the most powerful political organizations of their time. This ribbon is for the 26th National Encampment of the GAR held in Washington, D.C. from 20 - 25 September, 1892. The ribbon is in good condition nd still has some nice color to it. The gold tassel at the bottom of the ribbon is still firmly attached. The Women's Relief Corps was adopted as an auxiliary to the Grand Army of the Republic in 1883. This ribbon is from the WRC's 12th national Convention held in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania in 1894. This ribbon is from a delegate from the state of Kentucky. The color on the ribbon remains good, but the top and bottom of the ribbon is frayed. These display well together, or on their own! They come in a nice 8" x 12" riker case.
