This is a transitional period production Hitler Youth knife from World War II. It was manufactured in 1937, early in what is considered the transitional phase of these knives. The knife has an overall length of 9 3/4", with a blade length of 5 1/2". The blade has the motto of the Hitler Youth, "Blut und Ehre!" (Blood and Honor) is etched on the obverse side. The reverse side of the blade is etched with the round RZM logo above M7/51 and the date of 1937. The M7/51 represents the maker of Anton Wingen of Solingen, Germany. The blade still retains a bright finish, has been sharpened and has several knicks along the cutting edge. This knife was designed to be used as a camp knife for the German youth, so the condition of the blade is very typical. The buffer pad is still present on the blade. The hilt is on very good condition. The bakelite grips show evidence of wear from use, but have no cracks or chips. They are held very securely to the hilt by two aluminum rivets. The hilt retains the majority of the nickel finish in all areas, with wear in the expected areas. There are numerous "hammer" nicks along the spine, but the plating remains intact. The Hitler Youth diamond is present, but does have a slight movement. The knife comes with it's original scabbard. The scabbard is dent free, and retains the majority of the black finish. The scabbard tip is where most of the missing finish is, along with numerous scratches on both sides of the scabbard. The leather hanger is present and in very good condition. The snap on the retaining strap is functional. Overall, this is a very good example of a transitional period Hitler Youth knife from WWII.
