WWII Japanese Hinomaru Flag

This is a Japanese Hinomaru "Ball of the Sun" flag from the World War II period. The flag measures 35" wide and 26" high. It is constructed of a single panel of white cloth with a dyed red disc in the center, representing the sun. Both of the original ties are still attached to the flag. The colors of the flag are still very vibrant, the red disc especially. The white field shows some very slight staining scattered about. There are no rips or tears in the flag, not even any mothing issues. This flag has two Japanese characters but I have no idea what they represent. These Japanese flags made prized souvenirs for Marines and soldier's alike. It displays well and will compliment any collection.
