This is an Infantry cap or hat insignia from the Spanish American War period. It measures 2 5/16" wide and 1 1/2" tall. It is made of brass and still has a little shine to it. It is made up of Model 1795 flintlock rifles that are crossed with the regimental number 27 in the upper quadrant and the company letter F in the lower quadrant. General Order Number 21, dated 20 March, 1876, directed that the letter of the company will be placed in the lower angle and the number of the regiment in the upper angle. This set represents Company F of the 27th Infantry Regiment, having served since it's formation in 1901 through present day. The pin is still present and closes properly. This would look great displayed on a Model 1889 campaign hat!
