This is a set of thirteen excavated military pins and insignia from the Grand Army of the Republic, World War I and World War II period. There is one eagle header and one delegate badge from the GAR era. There is no makers mark on the reverse of either piece. There is one honorable discharge button and four US officer's collar brass from WWI. The honorable discharge isa round disc with a five point star in the center, with the letters US in the center of the star. Laurel branches surround the five point star. One of the US collar insignia's has the NA within a rectangle, the others do not. All the pinbacks are missing from the collar insignia. There are two "ruptured duck" honorable discharge buttons from WWII. One is a screw back, the other is a button type. There are also two US Navy Reserve honorable discharge buttons. Both have most of the original white enamel, neither have any of the red or blue enamel. In addition to the military pins and buttons there is one Veterans of Foreign Wars button and one National Rifle Association button. The VFW button is a screw back, but is missing the nut. The NRA looks to have been a screw back, but the post is missing. All of these items were recovered from trash pits just outside Camp Funston, Kansas. Camp Funston was used during WWI as a training base for units deploying overseas and as a demobilization camp after the war ended. These will display well in a riker case.
