This is a medal presented to reenactors present at the 1993 reenactment of the Battle of Carthage, Missouri. This medal was stamped to commemorate the Battle of Carthage that was fought 5 July, 1861. There were seven areas of major confrontation over a filed nine miles long in the Carthage area. Over 7000 troops were involved and this became the first major battle of the Civil War to that point. Thirteen significant engagements occurred in this area during the Civil War, and in 1863 the town of Carthage was burned. The medal is comprised of a blue and gray ribbon with a round medallion suspended from it. The two figures on the face of the medal represent Colonel Franz Siegel on the left and Missouri Governor Claiborne Jackson on the right. The medal is in unissued condition and would make an outstanding gift for the reenactor who attended this battle reenactment but didn't receive the medal.
