Kansas Rectangle Buckle with Keeper

This is a rectangular belt buckle with KANSAS in raised letters. The buckle with keeper measures 3 5/16" wide and 1 1/4" tall. The buckle is made in the fashion of a Civil War period officers shoulder strap. The border is raised and the background is stippled. The raised block lettering is 9/16" in height. The opening in the buckle and keeper for the belt are 1" wide. I don't know if this one was flat originally, but it's sure got some body curve to it now. The most interesting thing is the reverse of the buckle. In depressed lettering the word WISCONSIN can be clearly seen. I have no idea what that's all about. There is no makers mark or any identifying stamps on the buckle or keeper.
