This is a medallion for the 10th National Convention of the American Legion held October 8-12, 1928 in San Antonio, Texas. The actual convention badge had a red, white and blue ribbon with a pin attached to the back side for wear, with this medallion suspended from it. The loop of the medallion for the ribbon is broken, which may explain why the ribbon is missing. The medallion itself measures 1 1/4" wide and 2 1/4" high. It is oval shaped, with a spread winged eagle forming the attachment loop at the top. A five point star with white enamel inlays is in the center, with the American Legion logo overlaid in the center of the star. A small military type shield is at the bottom, with blue, white and red enamel dividing the shield into three sections. A laurel wreath runs around the entire border. The reverse is stamped with the year 1928 at the top. Below the year is TENTH/NATIONAL/CONVENTION, an image of the Alamo and SAN ANTONIO under it. The bronze finish of the front contrasts well with the red, white and blue enamel. If you have an American Legion collection this is still a nice find for it.
