This is the medallion for the 1912 annual encampment for either the Idaho, Illinois, Indiana or Iowa National Guards. The medallion is in the shape of a Model 1858 canteen, with the "sling" providing the attachment point for the header bar. Most likely the bar just said souvenir in the shape of a ribbon. The silver plated medallion shows some tarnish, but still has great eye appeal. In the center of the canteen are the letters ING within a laurel wreath. In an arc above the letters is the word ANNUAL, the date 1912 is broken up on each side of the letters and STATE ENCAMPMENT in an arc below the letters. The back of the canteen is maker marked SCHWAAB S&S. CO in an arc above MILWAUKEE. If you have a GAR or National Guard collection from one of the "I" states this will be a nice addition to it.
