This is a letter written by a Johnathon M Galt to a Woodbil (?). The letter is dated December 7th, 1861 and Johnathon is writing in regards to money he has arranged to have paid to a doctor Kennedy. The amount of money mentioned is 100 dollars. He also talks to of sending a lot of butter to Mrs Woodbil and hopes it will keep up the reputation of their Mountain Butter. The only talk of the war is that that everything is quiet in his region, but that they are expecting an attack daily. He goes on to say that that they, being the Union, are turning their attention more to different points on the coast in south. This is a very early war dated letter, the context is very interesting and engaging. The hand writing is very clear and legible. There is very little punctuation used in the letter, which makes it a little difficult to read at times. This short letter will enhance any document collection.
