This is a framed United Confederate Veterans Reunion parade flag from the 1899 reunion held in Charleston, South Carolina. The flag itself measures 17 1/2" wide and 11" high. The colors on this parade flag are still bright and really catch your eye. There is no damage or stains anywhere on the flag. The stars are printed on the flag, nothing is sewn on. In the upper red quadrant of the flag the letters UCV are painted in black. In the bottom quadrant the letters SC are also painted in black. The heading shows where the flag was stapled to a stick. Charleston hosted the 9th National UCV reunion during may 10 - 13, 1899. The city extended these veterans every courtesy, allowing them the use of the new John Thomson auditorium. The construction of the auditorium was completed in 90 days to facilitate the national reunion. The convention opened May 10th with an estimated 25,000 in attendance. Over 7500 were crowded into the new Thomson auditorium, thousands were turned away. Notable persons in attendance for the commencement of the reunion included Lt Governor McSweeney of South Carolina, General C.L. Walker, Commander in Chief of the UCV General John B. Gordon and Mrs Thomas "Stonewall" Jackson, to name a few. A parade followed, when this flag was flown along the parade route. The simple antique wooden frame displays well with the flag. It measures 24" wide by 19" high. A simple beige woven mat really makes the flag stand out. Framed and ready to hang, this will really put a splash of color in your war room!
