This is a set of United Confederate Veterans parade flags from the estate of Lt Joshua A. Yount of North Carolina. The flags are made of a lightweight cotton muslin material and measures 6" by 6". The flags depicts the Confederate battle flag used by all Confederate troops. The wooden sticks that they were attached to are broken, but displayed in the frame with the flags. They are from the early 1900's. These were carried by the veterans and waved by the crowds along the parade routes during the reunions parades, usually ending the event. The colors of the flag show their age, but still have great eye appeal. There is no damage to the flags, but one does have a small stain on the white border. Lt Yount was from Catawba County, North Carolina. He was a 23 year old farmer when he enlisted on 31 October, 1861 as a Sergeant. He was mustered into F Company, 38th North Carolina Infantry Regiment on 31 December, 1861. The 38th North Carolina saw extensive action throughout the war, being assigned to A.P. Hill's Division of the Army of Northern Virginia for most of the war. Yount was wounded at Mechanicsville, Virginia in 1862 and Chancellorsville, Virginia in 1863. He was promoted from Sergeant to 2nd Lieutenant 18 April, 1862. He was again promoted to 1st Lieutenant on 18 September 1862. Yount survived the war and surrendered on 9 April, 1865 at Appomattox Court House, Virginia. The frame measures 8 1/4" by 15 1/4" and really makes these little jewels stand out. They will really make a great addition to your UCV or Confederate war room!
