This is a Virginia Military Institute cadet's full dress great coat from the 1950's. There is no maker label or size tag in the coat, but it is a larger size, approximately a size 44 in the chest. The coat is in very good condition, with the only damage due to moths on the red lined cape. There are no stains, rips tears or any other damage on the coat anywhere. There are three canted stripes on the cuff area of each sleeve to indicate this is a Senior Cadet's coat. There is no rank insignia on the sleeves. All the buttons for the coat are present, unfortunately they are incorrect. Someone must have taken this one and used it for Civil War reenacting, as all the buttons are general service eagle buttons with the Horstmann Brothers back mark. I suppose it would make a nice looking Yankee artillery great coat, just a little faded for the Union blue! There is one label on the inner left breast pocket with the name of Hinson sewn on it. I do not know if this was the name of the former cadet, or the name of the red leg reenactor. If you collect military academy memorabilia, or if you a reeanctor looking for an artillery great coat, you should give this one a good look.
