This is a Type I US collar insignia from the post World War I period. These were the first type of collar disk used for enlisted men, and were used from 1907 through 1926. The gilt style collar disk was used between 1921-1926. The disk measures 1" across and has a pebbled background. The raised letter US disk would have been worn on the right collar. It does not have the gilt finish, but likely had the bronze finish removed and used in lieu of one until it could be issued. If you need one for a uniform of for your disk collection you'll also need to find a screw back, as this one is missing.
