This is a Soldiers Sailors Welcome Committee pinback from the WWI period manufactured by the Wendell-Greenwood Company of Minneapolis, Minnesota. This company was started in 1886 by Charles Wendell and C.W. Greenwood. Initially they advertised as manufacturing lodge supplies for fraternal orders, flags and ladies laces and embroidery. By 1914 they had scaled their business back to exclusively producing celluloid buttons. The company, now known as Wendell's, is still in business today and remains in Minneapolis. This pinback badge is one of their products and measures 2 1/4" across. The badge is white with the words Soldier and Sailors in red letters in an arc at the top and bottom with Welcome Committee in white letters in a blue strip in the center of the badge. The white colored sections now show a cream colored appearance. The paper makers label on the back is in very good condition, missing just a small section near the pin. The label is very clear and legible. This would make a great addition to a WWI home front display.
