This is a group of six assorted excavated buttons. Two of them appear to be coat size buttons, two are cuff size and the other two may be collar disc. The first is a Canadian military button with the word Canada spelled out in cursive with a crown above it. It is back marked ERNEST J. SCOTT MONTREAL. The shank is present but loose. The button is a two piece design and has a nice mustard patina. The other coat size button is a two piece design. It has a stippled background with a triangular shape in the center of the face. Centered in the triangle is a native figure sitting behind a shield. The shield has what look like two birds on the left side and a large tree on the right side. The back of the button is very corroded, the shank is missing and no back mark is visible. One of the cuff buttons has the US Great Seal on the face. It looks to have been a piece design, but the back is missing. Two holes have been punched in the center of the button so that it can be sewn onto an article of clothing. The other cuff size button has a five point star on the face. It was a two piece design, but the back has rusted away. This one still retains the majority of the gilt. The last two are collar disc. The face has the number 10 on them. They are one piece design, made of a heavier, magnetic material. Instead of shanks, the backs of these disc look to have had threaded posts that are missing. I suspect they are for a militia or possibly law enforcement uniform. This will make a great little set for the beginning button collector in the family.
