This is a set of US Model 1885 spurs as introduced into the Army inventory by Ordnance Memorandum #29. These spurs show signs of use, but are not abused. One has just a very slight twist to it, so that it does not sit level when placed on a flat surface. The heels have the cast in groove. The brass has taken on a very eye pleasing mellow golden patina. The unique aspect of these spurs are they still have the original leather straps. The leather is still flexible and strong. One strap is full length, the other has had the tapered in broken off. This set of spurs were manufactured by Rock Island Arsenal as indicated by the R.I.A. stamps on the outer strap plate of both spurs. Matched sets of spurs are getting harder to come by. This model of spurs were used by the U.S Cavalry during the Indian Wars and Spanish American War, and will compliment either period for your collection.
