This is a riker case of various Ladies of the GAR and Women's Relief Corps reunion ribbons and badges. The GAR was a veterans organization that was formed by Benjamin Stephenson on 6 April, 1866. It was composed of Union veterans of the American Civil War. In the beginning the GAR was available as a way for the veterans to meet and stay in contact with each other after the war ended. They soon grew into one of the most powerful political organizations of their time. Organizations such as the Sons of Veterans, Daughters of the GAR, Women's Relief Corps, Ladies of the GAR and the National Association of Ex-Prisoners of War were started as auxiliaries to the GAR as the older veterans began to die off. There are 12 different reunion ribbons, most of them pertaining to the Ladies of the Grand Army of the Republic, included in this group. The Ladies Gar ribbons include; a 64th Annual Convention of the Ladies of the GAR held in Los Angeles, Ca, a 1940 Delegates Ribbon, the 58th, 59th and 62nd National Convention ribbons in yellow, a red 66th Annual Convention ribbon and an undated red Ladies of the GAR ribbon dated 1951 from Topeka, Kansas. There is one white Ladies of the GAR delegate ribbon with celluloid for the 11th annual convention held in 1904. The remaining ribbons are all Women's Relief Corps convention ribbons. Also included with the groups is a patriotic cockade, a small two sided 13 star American flag, a Chaplain's insignia for a GAR medal and a Ladies of the GAR medal with 12 smaller medallions showing past offices this unknown person held within the LGAR. All of this comes neatly packaged in an 12 x 16 riker case, and it displays fantastic! This would make a nice Christmas or birthday gift, or the start of someone's GAR Auxillary collection!
