This is a Smith and Wesson Model #1 1/2 single action .32 caliber revolver. Approximately 97574 of these revolvers were manufactured by Smith & Wesson between 1878 and 1892. The serial # of 52145 puts this one being manufactured in the mid to late 1880's. The serial number is stamped on the bottom of the back strap, on the back of the cylinder and both are very legible. This little pocket pistol measures 7 1/2" in overall length, with a barrel length of 3 1/2". The top of the round barrel is stamped "Smith and Wesson Springfield Mass. U.S.A. Pat'd. JAN 17 & 24 65 JUL 11 65 AUG 24 69 FEB 20 1877 REISSUE JULT 25 1871". The sights are fixed. This 5 shot revolver has a spur trigger. The cylinder is fluted and is not stamped. The gun was originally silver plated, but the majority of the plating is worn off. The metal now has a silverish gray patina. The Mother of Pearl grips are in good condition, having no cracks or chips. The mechanics of this little firearm operate perfectly. These little pocket pistols were popular with the river boat gamblers and others with less than honorable intentions! This one displays well, and will enhance any pistol collection.
