This is a Model 1860 Colt Army cap and ball revolver. The serial number 56073 puts this one in the production year of 1862. There are no inspector's cartouches on the grips. The 8" barrel has good rifling and a bright clean bore. The single line ADDRESS COL. SAMl COLT NEW YORK U.S. AMERICA address is clearly visible. The Colt patent mark is still very crisp and legible, as is the cylinder scene! You can still read the "PAT SEPT 10th 1855" below the serial number on the cylinder, not bad for a 159 year old gun! The sub inspectors stamp of P is found on the barrel and cylinder. The serial numbers are very crisp and match, to include the wedge. The gun has an overall steel gray patina, with some case color showing on the frame. The mechanics of this old Colt work perfectly. The walnut grips have some of the original varnish remaining, but it's worn pretty thin. The usual small bumps and dings can be seen on the sides of the grips. They fit the gun like a glove, but the right side grip shows repairs by the back strap. This is a solid gun that has some great eye appeal. It will make a great addition to your Civil War weapons collection, or your Colt revolver collection.
