This is an excavated Leech & Rigdon style CS two piece buckle produced during the American Civil War. This sand cast brass plate has all the casting flaws and file marks that every collector wants to see. It measures 47 x 88 mm with a wreath height of 47 mm. This style of two piece CS buckles are the more commonly recovered ones in Western Theater Confederate campsites. The buckle has tremendous eye appeal, with the tongue and wreath having a dark chocolate/greenish patina. This CS two piece buckle comes in an attractive wooden display case along with a hand written letter of authenticity from Larry Hicklen. It will certainly fit into any Confederate collection, and could be the center piece to many collections!
