This is a .41 caliber short rimfire cartridge from the post Civil War era. The brass cased cartridge is head stamped with an M in the center of the case. This was produced by Remington as a "special" limited run contract for Phil Medicus,. He was was a dealer in collectible and exotic ammunition in New York City post WWII. The case length is .479" with a projectile diameter of .381", with an overall length of .815". The projectile, a flat nose, has an aged, light gray patina to it. The brass case has a beautiful bronze patina. There aren't a whole lot of these rimfire cartridges with the M head stamp floating around out there. If you have an ammunition collection, this one needs to be in it!
