This is a United States Marine Corps great coat button manufactured by the Scovill Manufacturing Company of Waterbury, Connecticut. This bronze button would have been worn on a Marine officer's or enlisted mans great coat. It measures 28.48 mm, is of a two piece design and utilizes a shank. The face of the button has an eagle with outpsread wings holding a loop of anchor cable in his beak, grasping the ring and stock of a slanting fouled anchor with his talons. Thirteen five pointed stars are in an arc above, the entire piece is on a lined field within a raised border. The back mark reads "SCOVILL MF'G CO./WATERBURY". The shank is present and is straight. This button is in good condition and will fit into any WWI Marine Corps display.
