This is a Bronco style saddle tree from the 1870's - 1890's time period. The wooden tree is in very good condition, and is completely covered in rawhide. The high back seat and large swell design were created to help keep the "bronc stomper" back in the saddle. It also helped the rider keep a low center of gravity by keeping his weight towards the rear of the horse. The rawhide is in good condition, but does have some stitching issues. There are spots where the stitching is loose, and others where it is broken and missing. To be this old is has actually held up rather well. This would make a great decorator piece for a southwestern or cowboy themed room!
