WWI German Baltic Cross Paul Meybauer Back Mark
Item #: AA3600
This is a World War I German Baltic Cross First Class by Paul Meybauer. The Baltic Cross was awarded to members of the Baltic militia and the German Volunteer units in the Baltic area that, before 1 July, 1919 had been "under fire" for at least 3 months in the Baltic countries. It is a black oxidized metal cross with a gilt "Hochmeister" of the German Knighthood Order cross, terminated by lilies at the top. The back side of the cross is plain. This award could be worn either as a breast pin or from a white ribbon with a central blue band and blue stripes near the edge of the ribbon. The Baltic Cross was instituted in the summer of 1919 by the "Baltische Nationalausschuss"in commemoration of the Baltic liberation fights in 1918-1919in Sudivland and Kurland. This Nationalausschuss was the political representation of the German Baltic population in Latvia at the time. In total there were 21,839 crosses issued. The Baltic Cross was recognized as an official German award on 16 May, 1933. This cross is in very good condition, and carries the makers mark of the only identified maker for them, Paul Meybauer. This will compliment any WWI or WWII German medal collection.
