Late 1800's Tintype Image of an Enlisted Artilleryman 5th Field Artillery
Item #: AA3782
This is a tin type image made between 1872 and 1885 of a young enlisted artilleryman. The tintype measures 2" wide and 3 1/4" high. The top right corner of the image has a crease where it has been bent at some point, other than that it is in very good condition. The image has great clarity and contrasts well with the back drop. The image, in a studio setting, shows a young enlisted man in uniform. His uniform consists of a Model 1872 kepi with the crossed cannons of the artillery branch and the number 5 above it. He wears an 1884 five button fatigue blouse, leather belt with shoulder strap, Pattern 1872 buckle and 1885 saber attachment. The buckle has three letters within the oval instead of the customary US, but I can't quite make them out, possibly SLA. He wears four awards on his right breast, they appear to be GAR and state medals. The image has no markings or identification on it. This is a very good image of a light artilleryman taken during the Indian Wars era, and will display well in your collection.
