Five Piece Relic Set from Ft Elliott, Texas

This is an excavated 5 piece relic set recovered from Fort Elliott, Texas. These items were recovered by a long time Indian territory relic hunter who recently passed away. The relics were recovered on private property with the land owners permission. The relics are mounted on a wooden plaque that measures 5 1/4" by 3 3/8". The five dug relics are epoxied to the plaque for display and include a a .45-70 rifle cartridge case, a .45-70 rifle bullet, a US General Service coat button, an equipment two prong buckle and a small, unidentified six spoke wheel. Fort Elliott was established on 5 June, 1875 as an advance supply post for the campaign to clear the Texas panhandle of American Indians. It was named for Major Joel H Elliott, who was killed at the Battle of Washita River in 1868. The fort remained active until 1890. These recovered relics are from the 1860's to 1880's time period.
