This is an spear point single edged side knife made by R. Lingard circa 1860-1870. The knife measures 9 7/8" overall, with a 6" blade. One side of the blade has a spread winged eagle surrounded by a floral motif. Inscribed above the eagle is AMERICAN HUNTING KNIFE. The ricasso is marked R. LINGARD/PEA CROFT/SHEFFIELD. The opposite side of the blade is blank and the ricasso is unmarked. The crossguard is a flat pointed oval that is made of nickel. The handle is a single grip in thick black lacquer with inlaid mother of pearl stars. The blade has a 1/8" spine, making it pretty sturdy for it's length. The blade is in good condition with small spots of oxidation. The handle has a few small chips. The black leather scabbard has a gold leaf chain border with a nickel silver throat and frog stud. It shows heavy use and has some leather lose on the tip. Not sure if this one saw use in the Civil War, but it has been around some! This one will add some bling to your edged weapon collection.
