This is a veterans post war pipe. The pipe measures 6 1/4' long and 4" tall. The bowl measures 3" tall, 2 1/4" wide and has a 1 1/4" opening. The bowl has some very intricate carving. There is a woodland or possibly a swamp scene. There is a small building with steps leading up to it from two sides. The centerpiece of the carving is a Pelican. On one set of steps the date 1861 appears. The story that came with this one is that it came out of Louisiana. No name, unit or anything else. Where the stem joins the bowl is a small silver band stamped C.P.F. in an oval band and Sterling underneath the band. I am no pipe expert, but believe this one is from between 1880 and 1900. One thing is for sure, it has been well used. The bowl is definitely seasoned, but still draws well. I guess you could still smoke this one today.
