This is a Marine Corps Forest Green kersey wool winter dress uniform. This one is some what unique, as it seems the jacket is WWII era while the pants are definitely post Korean war time. The jacket has the patch of the 4th Marine Aircraft Wing patch sewn on the left sleeve. The 4th Marine Base Defense Aircraft Wing was commissioned August 22, 1942, at Marine Corps Air Station Ewa, Hawaii. The three squadrons three of the wing were located at Midway, Ewa and Samoa with Squadron headquarters at Ewa. In 1944 the squadron was renamed the 4th marine Aircraft Wing. The 4th Marine Aircraft Wing deactivated shortly after the war. The Marine that wore this uniform was a Gunnery Sergeant, these insignia being WWII era. The Eagle, Globe and Anchor insignia are also WWII era. This goes along with the "Ruptured Duck" service patch over the left breast pocket. In the right sleeve opening written in ink is R.D. Jud and the number 32. The left sleeve opening again has R.D. Jud and the year 1942 written in ink. Below that is a green stamp that reads QUARTERMASTER DEPT. US MARINE CORPS 1941 - 1942. There is only one service strip on each sleeve, indicating at least 4 years of service. In the collar of the jacket written in ink is C 07121301. All the buttons on the uniform are back marked SCOVILLE MAG CO WATERBURY.The pants are also kersey wool but have a quartermaster tag dating them to 1957. On the waist band written in ink is C 07121302 and the number 58. Pants size of 30 x 31 is also written on the waist band. The overseas cap has written in ink 07121303, 7 1/4, the letter C and in stencil Singer D.L. It is not uncommon to find more than one or even two names or serial numbers on Marine uniforms. The only thing missing from this uniform is the cloth belt it came with. Most Marines chose to wear the cordovan colored service belt with it anyway. If only it could talk.
