A leather 4 compartment wallet identified to James A. Blick. His name, James Bilck, and the date 1864 are written in period ink on the inside of the wallet. The wallet is 4" wide and 2 1/2' tall. The leather is still very supple and has little crazing and slight flaking. James Blick was a 4th Sergeant in the 5th Virginia Cavalry. The unit was organized in June 1862 and was assigned to the Army of Northern Virginia. It was engaged at the battles of First Manassas, the Penisula Campaign, the Seven Days's Battles, Second Manassas, Antietam, Fredericksburg, Chancellorsville, Brandy Station, Gettysburg, Siege of Petersburg and several others. The unit was present at Appomattox but only two troopers surrendered. The remainder fought their way through the Union lines and disbanded. Another cool little Confederate personal artifact just in to the shop!
