Just in to the shop, a United Confederate veterans reunion kepi from the early 1900's. There is no makers label in this one. The jean cloth material has some moth damage, nothing terrible though. The stitching is machine sewn and is still very strong. The chin strap is present and in good condition, but the adjustment loops are missing. The silver washed Virginia state seal buttons are back marked Horstmann Philladelphia. This one came with documentation that identifies this kepi to a Private James Davis of the 63 Virginia Infantry. The 63rd was one of the hardest fighting regiments in the Confederate army, seeing action in 70 separate engagements. It became a part of the Army of Tennessee and served under such distinguished Confederate Generals as James Longstreet, Patrick Cleburne, William Hardee, Stephen Lee and Nathan Bedford Forrest. This is a great Confederate artifact from a hard fought veteran.
