Slouch hat from a Canon City, Colorado clothing store. The Bethel clothing company opened for business in Canon City in 1903 and remained in business until 1916. This tan colored felt slouch hat, in the style of a Fedora, is in really good condition. The two inch brown band is tight against the crown and there is absolutely no fraying. The leather sweat band shows signs of wear and some of the stitching is loose. The hat makers mark is in the top of the crown and is completely legible. The sweat band has four embosses, the clothing store, comfort weight, hat maker mark and size 7 1/2. The lemon yellow cavalry hat cord is not frayed and displays fine. The coolest part is the laurel wreath with the medical Caduceus. Was this the reunion hat of a regimental surgeon of some Cavalry unit? Man if this thing could just talk! Unfortunately it came with no documentation. Another great Civil War veteran's hat that would look killer in anyone's display!
