1880's GAR Slouch Hat

Black felt Grand Army of the Republic slouch hat circa 1880's. This one is in amazingly good shape. There is no moth damage, stains or any other problems with it! The one inch band is tight to the body of the hat and shows only the tiniest amount of fraying on the back edge of the bow. The officers hat cord fits snugly. There is an 1880's laurel wreath with the signal corps insignia attached pin on the front of the hat. A brass G.A.R. emblem is pinned to the right side of the hat. The sweat band has some staining, but nothing to worry about. A makers label is embossed on the sweat band that reads THE SEAL BRAND over a scene depicting a seal on the beach with a ship in the back ground. On the left is the maker's initials, a W encircled by an O & Co. Under the scene it reads every hat warranted. There is no size label in the hat, but it fits my 7 1/2" grape pretty good! This is a fine example of a Civil War veterans reunion hat you'd be proud to own! Assuming you're not from below the mason Dixon line that is!
