Excavated Militia Plate Back

Excavated 1850's militia belt plate back. This one once had a brass sheet rolled the face. All that remains now is the tin back, complete with hook and retainer. The tin has turned a dark brown all over. When held against the light the reliefs of the eagle are visible. It still holds it's original shape, measuring 2 15/16" wide and 1 3/4" tall. Neat little piece of Pre Civil War history! Sorry, but I do not know the location of the excavation.
