Militia Belt Plate with Belt

1850's militia belt plate on the original embroidered belt. This one is pretty unique, as it has four Hardee hat badges used as belt hangers. The plate itself is a die struck rolled brass plate with applied brass tongue, belt loop bar and keepers. It retains it's original shape but is tarnished on the top and right side. The Hardee badges have a chocolate brown patina. The leather belt is still very supple, with only one small tear on the back side. The embroidered cloth cover is present, but most of the stitching is gone. It is brown with gold stitching in two rows in the center of the cloth. The belt has two chain sword hangers in addition to the brass hanger. There is no history on this one. The Union and Confederate forces used this type of belt plate. It seems that most of the ones recovered from battlefields have been attributed to Confederate forces. Who knows, if only this one could talk! Great piece of pre war and/or Civil War history to add to your collection!
