Civil War era US Navy general service belt plate with original belt. The belt measures 26 1/2" long and 1 1/2" wide. The leather is in great condition and has a blue and gold sash sewn onto it. Some of the stitching is loose and there are a few frays here and there. But for a belt rig that was in service from 1860 though 1900 it is in remarkable condition. This belt plate is listed in O'Donnel and Campbell's book "American Military Belt Plates" as plates 1000 - 1002. The buckle is of two piece construction and made of gilt cast brass. The high points of the eagle show some wear, otherwise the buckle looks beautiful! While the Naval regulations covering the Civil War aren't clear, this style plate was worn by commissioned officers. Here is an opportunity to own a seldom seen piece of Civil War Naval history in outstanding condition!
