1902 GAR Encampment Souvenir

Souvenir medal from the 1902 Grand Army of the Republic 36th National Encampment. The gathering was held from October 6 - 10 in Washington DC. It measures 3" tall and 1 7/8" wide. The broach spells out GAR in red, white and blue letter with the word Washington in the center. It is back marked SCHWAAB S. & S. CO. MILWAUKEE. There is minimal chipping of the paint on the lettering. The medal is marked 36th NAT'L ENCAMPMENT OCT. 6-10 1902. It is topped with an eagle clutching two cannon barrels in it's talons. The capital building is inset in an oval in the center of the medal, with a soldier on the left and a sailor on the right in small ovals. A portrait of George Washington is inset in a circular relief encircled by a wreath is at the bottom of the medal. It is back marked with OFFICIAL SOUVENIR / SCHWAAB S. S. CO. / MILWAUKEE. The metal is an even chocolate brown. This will make a nice addition to your GAR badge and souvenir collection!
