1/4 Plate Ambrotype of a Confederate Cavalryman seated in a studio portrait. The image has some degradation on the left side of the soldier. This young man is a Confederate Cavalry Lieutenant. His shell jacket has the single bar of a Second Lieutenant and C buttons. The coolest part of the image is the writing on the back. In old ink is written 6th N.C. The 6th North Carolina Cavalry Regiment was organized in August 1863 when the 5th and 7th North Carolina Cavalry battalions were consolidated. The 6th was disbanded in April 1865. The leatherette case is in good condition. The binding for the two halves is intact, but is loose at the bottom edge. Both closure hooks are present and hold the case closed very tightly. A great piece for the North Carolina or image collector!
