Bushrod Johnson CDV

CDV of Major General Bushrod Johnson. Born in Ohio, Johnson was one of a few northern born Confederate generals. Bushrod Rust Johnson attended West Point and graduated in 1840, commissioned a Lieutenant of Infantry. He fought in the Seminole Wars in Florida and the Mexican war before resigning from the Army. After the military he taught at the Western Military Institute in Kentucky and the University of Nashville in Tennessee. When the Civil War began Johnson entered the Confederate Army as a Colonel of Engineers in June of 1861. He fought and was wounded at the Shiloh. After recovering, he became a division commander and was present at the Battle of Perryville, Stones River, Chickamauga and the Siege of Knoxville. Bushrod Johnson ended the war as a Major General. He returned to teaching and died in Illinois. He was reburied in the Nashville Cemetery alongside his wife. This is an early CDV as indicated by the double lines along the edge of the print. The image is very clear with little degradation. There are no rips, tears or trimming of the edges. At the bottom left corner of the image on the front is printed C. C. Giers. In the bottom right corner is Nashville Tenn. The CDV has the back mark of the C.C. GIERS portrait gallery of Nashville, Tn. At the top of the image on the back is hand written in pencil Maj Gen. Bushrod Johnson. A quality image of a unique Confederate General.
