Brass match safe from the Civil War era. Soldiers living out in the field during this period had to make their own way in ever facet of daily life. Something as insignificant as matches were extremely important back then. Without them you couldn't cook, make coffee or stay warm. And wet matches just don't cut it. So this little piece of gear helped keep both Johnny and Billy warm, dry and fed! It measures 2 3/4" tall by 1 1/4" wide. It is stamped with a patriotic eagle motif on both sides. This one appears to have had a silver wash applied, but is only present on one side. Could be used in your camp scene or personal articles collection.
