This is a German WWII K98 Bayonet with scabbard and frog in good condition. The bayonet blade appears to have been reblued. The bayonet release button is functional. The reverse upper pommel edge contains the two Waffen Amt markings being the open winged eagle. The grip plates are walnut and have a light brown appearance with minimal wear. The plates are retained by spanner and screw hardware. The guard edges remain crisp, while the surfaces are lightly pitted. The blued blade is complete with no grinding or sharpening marks. Apparently it is a replacement blade, as there are no stamps on the obverse or reverse ricasso of the bayonet. The scabbard is straight with no dents or dings. The scabbard has no traces of the original finish left, and shows scattered oxidation and light pitting. The scabbard is stamped with the serial number 5418 and S/155G, indicating the maker of E.u.F. Horster Solingen, 1935. The scabbard throat is retained by a single side screw. The leather frog shows some honest wear from use, but is still in solid condition. The leather retaining strap is missing. The frog has no maker marks stamped on it anywhere. This bayonet with scabbard and frog is an honest example of an early manufacturing and will fit into any WWII German collection.
