This is a set of barn find horse blinders from the World War I period. The blinders were used on horses and mules to limit their field of vision and allow them to concentrate on pulling what ever it was they were hitched to. This piece of horse tack remained virtually unchanged from the Civil War up through WWI. During WWI horses and mules were used extensively by both sides of the conflict to pull supply wagons, ambulances and artillery pieces. This set came out of an old barn in Churchill, Tennessee. The leather is very dry, stiff and dirty. One part of the leather harness is broken, the rest remains intact. There are four brass rosettes present, two large US rosettes from the WWI period on the headstall and two smaller earlier period ones on the blinders themselves. They may not be in the best condition, but can still be used as part of your WWI artillery collection.
