It was established by the War Department through a general order in April, 1919 to recognize personnel of the Allied Expeditionary Force who served between 6 April, 1917 and 11 November, 1918. Personnel who were on the Russian Expedition between 12 November, 1918 and 5 August, 1919 were authorized the medal, as well as members of the AEF Siberia who served from 23 November, 1918 and 1 April, 1920. This full size WWI Victory Medal is in good condition and has a Defensive Sector battle clasp. The recipient of the Victory Medal was authorized to wear battle clasps for specific battles his unit was involved in, and if the battle was not named he was authorized to wear the Defensive Sector clasp. There are 14 different battle clasps that can be worn with this medal. The second medal is a full size Army Spanish War Service medal. It was established in July, 1918 to recognize those volunteers who served during the Spanish American War, but did not qualify for the Spanish Campaign Medal. Originally intended for members of the National Guard, qualification was extended in 1920 to include anyone on active federal service for at least 90 days during the period from 20 April, 1898 to 11 April, 1899, but did not qualify for the Spanish Campaign Medal. There were approximately 31000 of these medals awarded, with the first 16650 identifiable to known recipients through Army records. This medal is number 10023, and was issued to Clyde V. Taylor of the 7th California Volunteer Infantry Regiment. This medal is in good condition as well. The ribbons that accompany the medals are mounted on a two ribbon bar.
