This is a Model 1851 sword belt rig from the American Civil War period. The black leather belt measures 30" long and 1 5/8" wide. The short sword drop measures 9" long including the snap swivel, while the long drop is 33 1/2" long including the swivel. The leather is in good condition, with no tears, splits or breaks. The major issue the belt has is the missing belt plate. At one point this rig had a small tongue Model 1851 sword belt plate on it. The other thing missing is the brass adjustment hook for the length of the belt. Despite this, the belt still displays well. I would guess that the missing 1851 Sword belt plate is the plain enlisted type with the wreath cast into the plate. The keeper is still present and has two stamps on it. The front side is stamped 131, the reverse is 608. If you have a loose small tongue 1851 sword belt plate, this old sword belt rig would go well with any Civil War or Indian War display
