This is a post Civil War era clip point side knife that came out of Middle Tennessee. The overall length of this well made clip point is 13 5/16, with a blade length of 9 1/16". The blade is 1 1/2" wide at the hilt and has a spine that is 1/8" and has a very good balance in your hand. It even retains some period sharpness and has taken on a dark gray patina. The oval shaped cross guard is 3 1/8" wide and made of brass. A two piece brass framed grip, with split ferrule and pommel, showed the exposed tang of the blade. The two piece wooden grips are a nice medium brown, and contrast well with the mellow golden brass. The brass framed grip and wooden slabs are retained to the tang with a brass insert with two brass pins. There is no makers mark on the knife, but it is very well made. It comes with a hand made copper scabbard. The scabbard shows about the same age as the knife. It is lap seamed and soldered on the back side. The copper belt loop is still intact. It will complement any knife collection.
