Excavated US Model 1874 Picket Pin

This is an excavated US Model 1874 Cavalry picket pin from the Indian Wars period. This wrought iron pin measures 13 3/4" in length and is in dug, but stabilized condition. These picket pins were regulation pieces of equipment for the Cavalry. They were used to secure the horse while grazing, or when at rest. This one is the four sided pin that has a ring and swivel. It has a pitted surface that has been painted black. The swivel is frozen but complete. This is no history of where this one was dug. It still displays well and will compliment any Indian Wars collection.
