This is a World War II German Afrika Korps (DAK) enlisted man/NCO buckle on a web belt in mint condition. The buckle is die stamped steel and painted in an olive drab color. The front of the buckle has the GOTT MIT UNS raised lettering over the German eagle and swastika. The buckle retains the majority of the paint. The inside of the buckle is stamped R.S. & S., for Richard Sieper & Sohne. The tropical web belt is in amazing condition. It has a brown lather tab that has been punched with seven double vertical rows to allow for adjustment of the length of the belt. There is a small stamp on the leather between the stitching that reads cg, most likely an inspector stamp. Both ends of the belt has reinforced stitching along the edge to prevent fraying, and the stitching is as tight as the day it was made. One end of the belt is ink stamped 95, to indicate the length, that comes out 35". The belt is also ink stamped on the inside with C/0684/0005. The condition of this one makes me think it was never issued, or if it was never worn. The dry climate of the deserts the Afrika Korp fought in were brutal on leather equipment, thus the use of the webbed gear. This is a fantastic example of a piece of equipment used by the hard fighting Afrika Korps commanded by the famous Desert Fox, Field Marshal Irwin Rommel. If you have a DAK collection this is a must have item.
